"Bio:"
Royal Olive is a wannabe photographer based in southern Ontario. Olive holds an undergraduate degree in Environmental Science and Natural Resource Management from the University of Toronto. After 4 (mostly) horrific years at said institution, Olive decided to continue pursuing his interests in the Environmental field at a different university that actually cares about their students. Olive is now a master's student and will (hopefully) be defending his thesis in 2010.
Olive's interest in photography was discovered in high school, where he had the opportunity to learn great many traditional darkroom/film techniques from knowledgeable teachers. After two years of intense artistic creations, his motivation and creativity to continue doing photographic work substantially decreased after entering the world of academia. Realising that he was not exercising his artistic potential, Olive acquired a digital SLR in hopes that it would help him bring back some inspiration and allow him to at least pursue photography as a hobby. While this was not entirely successful, Olive managed to stay somewhat connected with his photographic interests.
Equipment:
I used to use a Kodak
DX6490, but my wants and needs have
outgrown what typical digital point and shoot cameras have to offer,
so I invested in a
Canon Digital Rebel XTi (DSLR), and
it absolutely rocks. I also have a
Minolta Maxxum 5 35mm SLR, an old
fully manual Nikon 35mm SLR, a
Lomo Supersampler 35mm camera and
the newest addition to the collection: a Kodad Brownie camera (vintage
camera, this one still works).
I also have my own darkroom
in which I can develop traditional black and white prints. However,
I stopped using it because traditional photography tends to be quite
messy and time consuming. As much as I absolutely love working in
a darkroom, it is simply not viable anymore. At least not now that
there are so many digital gadgets that facilitate photography. Plus,
I am concerned with all the chemicals that go to waste every time
a wet darkroom is used, and I cannot dispose of them very easily.
I hope you
enjoy my site,
blog
and pictures,
and do not hesitate to send me
messages and to post comments on my blog
and flickr
images.
